I have a co-worker whose birthday is the day before Halloween so I decided to make her a monster mash birthday card. I listened to the Monster Mash song and decided to make 4 of the monsters as well as a graveyard on the cover.
It was a graveyard smash:
I used a tag punch to make the gravestones. A grey stamp pad and my fingers to smudge on the gravestones and a sharpie to write RIP and the cracked lines. To make the sky background, I used watercolor paper and blue, black, and purple watercolors to make a night sky. I taped 2 of the gravestones to the background and used foam squares to make the other 2 pop. I then stamped 3 bats and heat embossed them.
On the inside of the card, I made a Happy Birthday sign that is hanging from the top of the card.
Then came the party guests!
IT'S ALIVE!!!
I started with Frankenstein, drawing and cutting out his jacket and pants. Then his shirt and boots. I used a 1 1/2 inch circle punch for his head and a 1/4 inch circle punch for his ears. I draw and cut out the hair shape and then the hand shapes. The hands were the hardest for me. I always have trouble with hands. Then I attached him together and added the white rectangle paper at his neck for screws, googly eyes, and drew on a smile.
Next came Dracula:
Again, I drew and cut each of the pieces other than the face, ears, and eyes which I used punches for.
The Ghost:
The ghost was the easiest monster to make. I cut him out of clear vellum paper so he could be see through, added googly eyes, and a punched out black circle for his mouth.
Lastly, the Zombie:
The zombie took me the longest to make. I drew and cut the pieces and then used a circle punch for the brain. I added squiggly lines to make it look like a brain and then made a slit in the hair to slide the brain in. I used a birthday cake stamp and then colored in the cake with markers.
Now for the Monster Mash Birthday Party:
I made all of the monsters stand up when the card is opened. I did this by creating a floating floor, which I learned how to do here. There was a lot of space left in front of the monsters and I wanted to create a birthday message, so I made a rug for the floor, cutting out 2 ovals (one slightly bigger than the other) and stamping individual letters then punching them out with a small square punch, then using glue dots to attach them to the rug saying "Have a scary good birthday!"
My co-worker loved this card and I hope all of you do as well.
